Today forRefugees CEO Amber and her husband Fred joined the Peace of Cake event at Bromley Reform Synagogue hosted on Mitzvah Day. Mitzvah is an annual event, based in the Jewish community but with many different faiths participating, focusing on performing good deeds – known as mitzvot – to bring people together and make a positive impact. Today’s gathering brought people together to stand united for peace and understanding; proving that even in the most divisive times more than one year into the deadly Isreal-Palestine war, inter-faith unity can prevail.
The event was led by Asma Meer, the inspiring founder of Peace of Cake, who dedicates much of her life to fostering dialogue and building bridges. As Asma shared, “It takes courage to reach out and understand division. Good will always win so we have to cling to the good. We will not be divided – we work together towards understanding.”
This powerful message resonated throughout the synagogue as attendees came together to celebrate our shared humanity. The room was filled with warmth, conversation and, of course, cake! A highlight of the day was the fruit crumble bake-off where creativity, flavour and friendly competition prevailed!
At forRefugees we believe in the power of unity and compassion. We actively support events like Peace of Cake knowing that, despite our differences, we are stronger when we come together. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, helps build a world where peace and understanding can flourish.
We are deeply grateful to Bromley Reform Synagogue and Asma Meer for creating a space where dialogue and humanity take centre stage. As we continue our work supporting refugees across Europe we carry forward the spirit of today’s gathering—standing together for peace, unity and a brighter future for all.
One world together, we will not be divided.
