When that new deep fryer just hits the spot!

A couple of months ago forRefugees funded this new commercial deep fryer to the Saffron Kitchen Project, thanks to all your generous donations. If Evelina's smile isn't the face of happiness I don't know what is! They were super chuffed with their new piece of equipment as it allows them to cook larger amounts of food in a shorter amount of time.

I love all the projects we support, but Saffron Kitchen is truly one of my very favourites: they give vocational training and provide healthy and delicious food to the refugee community in Athens. They offer free culinary education to refugees and provide them with a Greek certification that allows them to work in restaurants and hospitality.

They also employ a team of refugees as part of the permanent kitchen staff which provides anything between 350-500 meals a day, Monday to Friday around Athens. If you think of soup kitchens maybe the image of sad and stodgy stews come to mind? But not at Saffron Kitchen - the food is honestly sooo flavoursome and delicious! I don't know how they do it whilst cooking in bulk but they do it so well.

With Greece's food prices currently ranking as the 4th most expensive in Europe, they provide both an absolutely vital service with nutritious meals for vulnerable people, as well as long term prospects for the students that enroll with them.
