Greece – Kamila’s Journey to Aspiring Accountant with Habibi Center

by Amber Bauer

Based on true stories, these anonymised first-person accounts, and related images, shine a spotlight on real people’s journeys as refugees and the critical role our partner NGOs have played in their safety and protection in Europe.

My name is Kamila, and I recently passed the Maths, Science, and Social Studies international GED exams with the NGO school, Habibi Center! Additionally, I completed an online accounting course through the IT Level 3 program. I have just one more exam to go.

My dream is to become an accountant and I’m excited to be interning with the Habibi Center accounting team. They’ve decided to train me, providing valuable experience to add to my CV and it means I’m gaining both qualifications and work experience.

I recently moved to Switzerland and this training will open doors to higher-level education here. Despite the distance from Greece, I’m still able to work remotely with the Habibi Center team, just like our Social Media and Communications intern, Pouya, who works with us from Germany.

I am proud of the progress I’ve made and grateful for the support that has helped me reach this point. Thank you Habibi Center for being a part of my journey.
